Free public tennis courts across Boston and Cambridge

Free means no listed casual court fee

Every court below is marked public and free in Rally’s reviewed directory. That does not mean unlimited access: schools, programs, permits, reservations, repairs, weather, and posted time limits can affect when a court is available. A reservation platform may also require an account even when the casual court price is zero.

Free public courts by Boston and Cambridge ZIP code

Good starting points by trip type

• Central Boston: compare Boston Common and Prince Street, then verify each facility’s booking or walk-on rules.
• Near Northeastern: William E. Carter Playground is public, but university program blocks and the posted queue matter.
• East Boston: compare Memorial Park, Constitution Beach, and Porzio Park rather than defaulting to downtown.
• Dorchester and South Boston: use the ZIP-sorted table to compare Dorchester Park, Moakley, Savin Hill, and nearby options.
• Cambridge: city outdoor courts are generally governed by Cambridge’s posted hours and first-come public-use rules.

Before you travel

1. Open the operator link and check alerts, construction, and program schedules.
2. Confirm whether a reservation is offered or the court is walk-on only.
3. Check the lighting field if your game may run past sunset.
4. Share a precise court entrance or pin with your partner.
5. Bring a backup from the same ZIP or a nearby transit route.

Rally’s interactive court directory is the best place to compare these records on a map. Detailed guides are also available for Boston Common, Carter Playground, Moakley Park, East Boston Memorial Park, Prince Street, and selected Cambridge courts.
